Relatório revela aumento de 22,3% no desmatamento dos biomas brasileiros, em 2022

Segundo o mais recente Relatório Anual de Desmatamento (RAD) do MapBiomas, houve um crescimento de 22,3% no desmatamento no Brasil, em 2022. O estudo aponta que 90% da área desmatada, no ano passado, ficam na Amazônia e no Cerrado.
Em quatro anos (2019 a 2022), desde que o RAD foi implementado, foram reportados mais de 303 mil eventos de desmatamento totalizando 6,6 milhões de hectares, o que equivale a uma vez e meia a área do estado do Rio de Janeiro.
A Amazônia e o Cerrado juntos respondem por 70,4% dos alertas e 90,1% da área desmatada em 2022.
Houve incremento na área desmatada em cinco dos seis biomas brasileiros entre 2021 e 2022, com exceção da Mata Atlântica.
De acordo com RAD 2022, a agropecuária respondeu por 1.969.095 hectares, ou 95,7% do total de 2.057.250 hectares desmatados no país ano passado, consolidando-se como o principal vetor de supressão de vegetação nativa. O garimpo respondeu por 5.965 hectares e outras atividades de mineração por 1.128 hectares.
